Wine Geometry Rating System

November 25, 2016
One week, one wine...

Dear Wine lovers,

I felt like I needed to make somethings clear regarding the grades I give to wine, in order for you to be well-advised, and to know what and why you are going to buy.

Here are the WineGeometry rules for rating:

  1. We only test and rate wines under 100 SGD
  2. We only test and rate wines available in Singapore for you to buy straightaway
  3. We try to be as objective as possible, basing our rating on 5 criteria:
  • Smell
  • No Default
  • Balance
  • Length
  • Depth

Each criterion is ranked out of 4, as we believe that each of these parts are equally important in evaluating a wine. See Lesson 1 to understand what we mean about smell, default, balance, length and depth.

But just as literature teachers at school struggle to give objective grades to their students, wines can only be rated relatively to other wines! So we constantly need to compare what we preferred, to analyse differences to make our rating more precise.

That's why grades may slightly change over time, after more and more wine tastings.

Please also note that the rating is relative to wines in Singapore under 100$. So if the mark 20/20 is reached, it means we believe perfection has been reached... for what is available at that price range. Of course, at this level we cannot compare with a Chateau Petrus.

Our hope is to fulfill you with only 20/20 wines, to help you purchase the best available wines in Singapore.

But shh... keep it a secret to impress your friends! :)
