Meeting the vendors - Chateau Asia

Dear WineGeometry lovers,

This week I have met with another wine vendor in Singapore: Chateau Asia.

My objective is first to share the philosophy of the vendor, and then talk about their wine selection.

This is Heloise, Chateau Asia's CEO. Very active, she was still kind enough to take some time to share her opinion on the Singapore wine market.

Chateau Asia was created 4 years ago, after realizing that

1. People in Singapore loved wine but knew very little about it
2. Consumers were afraid of French wine, judged too difficult to understand and too expensive
3. These wine drinkers will prefer an Australian or Chilean wine, which is less scary, more universal, and is probably more affordable.

Their main goal is to take down the myth that says French wine is too noble for the average Singaporean. Yes, French wines are likely to be the best, but it doesn't mean you need to be an expert to enjoy it!

So they organize their business around 2 axes: 

1. First, they organize events.

• Wine tastings: Heloise and her team are foodies, so they make some wicked pairings! For example, they are bringing in master chef Janice Wong for a Dim Sum Champagne event on December 8th by the way, click here if you're interested!
• Wine classes: studying the differences between wine types, grapes, regions... pretty much what I'm trying to do through this blog :-))

2.And of course the online wine store. Here, it is interesting to note that their wine selection is rather limited: they do not give any space to mediocrity or error, as some other sites may do...

Their site is very straightforward, with under 40 red wines from France (whereas other sites can offer hundreds of wines, most of them not on stock!), which clearly guides your choice.

I personally made my selection of 3 wines in their store, which I will detail to you soon enough...
