Exceptional wine: Chateau Pape Clement ! 142 SGD / bottle

One week, one wine...

Ladies and Gentleman,

I am proud to introduce one of the Great wines of Bordeaux (Grand Clu Classe from 1855): the Chateau Pape Clement.

Lucky me, Santa Claus found out I was a good boy, and left me with this marvelous 2014 edition of the Pape Clement.

Knowing that the wine is only a couple years old, I was expecting a fresh, Spring-like atmosphere, with fresh cut grass and light tanins.

Actually, this 57.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37.5% Merlot makes you feel like Christmas ! (And I'm not saying that because it's Christmas eve)

The color of this classic Pessac-Leognan is very dark and rich, as all Bordeaux wines, but this one has an additional edge of a splendid Bordeaux-violet, which makes it stand out of the others. The smell is one of Winter, which is in harmony with the taste it brings. I found that it was like drinking hot wine, with cloves (mushrooms), cinnamon, vanilla and hints of apple; providing a warmth that other wines don't have.

But the most fascinating part is the aftertaste and length: rich and deep at the beginning, the atmosphere evolves after swallowing. The wine becomes smoother, "thinner", and lasts for almost a minute in the mouth. It is beautifully poised, and with continued aeration there is just a suggestion of dark chocolate.

I personally felt like that I was a funnel: the beginning was quite a wide array of flavors, then narrowing down to a more refined taste over time.

This wine is a beauty, and I will buy a few more to keep in my cellar for 5 years.

Global rating: 19.5/20

Smell: 5/5
No default: 5/5
Taste: 5/5
Depth: 4.5/5
Length: 5/5

It is a MUST BUY, please go for it! 71 SGD for half a bottle, you will have NO regrets!
