This week, I have decided to let you in on a family secret: this is our favorite red wine, the one we pull out from the cellar for all big occasions: the Chateau Chasse-Spleen. When I found out it was available in Singapore, I jumped on the occasion!
Legend has it that in the early 19th century, while Lord Byron was crossing the Southern Europe lands, which were prompt to support any likely revolutions, he made a stop at Gressier, the village of this Chateau. There, he was welcomed with open arms, and given plenty to drink by the hosts. The man would have praised him for the quality of his wine, known to "dispel the spleen", thus branding the name "Chasse-Spleen".
Over the years, the brand has gained reputation, especially thanks to Jacques Merlaut, a great wine merchant from the XX century. Now, his grand-daughter Celine Villars has been running the business since the year 2000.
But make no mistake, this wine isn't just some juice to help you forget about bad times. This rich wine brings you anywhere, in good and bad moods.
Over 70% of Cabernet Sauvignon inside (the trademark of the greatest Bordeaux wines), this medium-bodied wine has a clear scent of blackcurrant, and an after hint of tobacco leaves. First giving you a fresh taste of Spring, it will slowly bring you to a more Autumn-like atmosphere, where you feel like you are walking in the woods while the yellow, red and brown leaves are falling. The wine is long yet perfectly round, you just can't get enough of it. If you are with friends or family, make sure to buy more than one bottle, as everyone will definitely want more!
Pairing nicely with almost any meat, I personally had a Thanksgiving turkey with it yesterday which was an absolute delight!
