Intro: the passion of wine

Wine tasting: what a lovely social activity to enjoy with friends, family, or colleagues!

Most of us don't actually go to wine tasting activities, which are thought to be too high-level, too complicated to understand. So drinking wine will be more of a social gathering, like at a restaurant. The problem is, very few people are actually capable of taking the responsibility to choose the wine for everybody at a dinner table. What to look for? How do I make sure everyone will like it? Will it match our food well?

This blog comes in handy for those who are asking themselves these kind of questions.

I am a passionate wine drinker, who has been tasting wine at home since the age of 13 (just like most people in France :-)) but hadn't been fully educated on the notions of wine and its complexity. Little by little, my knowledge of wine has improved, in terms of historical facts, climate details and their influence on wines, and tasting know-how.

Wine is all about pleasure, so I will be taking immense pleasure sharing with you the results of my findings and wine tastings. The whole point is for the average person to be able to choose wine without hesitating, and without getting ripped off.

Note: I will mostly be talking about Red Wines, as it is my specialty, but I will occasionally give some pointers on White Wines as well. The reason for this is that the taste of a white wine is more "universal" than the taste of a red wine. What I mean is that a bad white wine is still usually drinkable, and acceptable by all the guests around the table. It still has that fresh-cold taste, that feeling of rehydration, that will smoothen the overall taste and make you feel good. Same goes for rosé wines and champagne, in my opinion. However, if you get a bad bottle of red wine, it can be very aggressive to the pallet, resembling vinegar in some cases. Therefore, it is much more "risky" for a common guy to pick a red wine than a white wine.
