How much alcohol do we have in our blood after drinking 1 glass of wine?

October 23, 2016

Of course, it is difficult to be precise in answering this sort of question, as it depends on a number of factors: the type of wine and volume served, for starters. But it also depends on your gender, your weight, what you ate and drank before...

But let's set a standard at 12.5 cl of wine, at 12% ABV (alcohol by volume).

Here are the tables for men and women on alcohol levels according to the number of drinks they have had:

Alcohol levels by gender, weight, and number of glasses

But worse is the time it takes to get back down to 0... Take a look at the following chart, which summarizes your "sobre countdown" (it takes on average 1 hour to eliminate 0,15 g/L of alcohol from your body)

If I were a 65kg man, it would take me 10 hours to fully eliminate 5 glasses of wine, which is already quite a lot.

But let's face it, we never binge drink wine, and drink all 5 glasses in less than an hour. Usually, we take time, and spread the tasting over a few hours. This in turn means that it will actually take much longer for that person to sobre down, as the body takes that much more time to eliminate alcohol if you keep feeding him the bad stuff after time.

So, drivers, be careful when you go out!
